Putting the everyday ones on the wall solves both problems at once. Jars, oils and condiments sit in view and within reach of the hob, the worktop clears, and the cupboard stops being an excavation. It comes in three sizes, with or without a rail along the front edge, so it can be specified to the wall you actually have.
Open storage only works when the thing holding it stays quiet, and this does: a plain, unadorned shelf in a soft gunmetal grey that recedes against tile or plaster rather than competing with it. The effect is closer to fitted kitchen hardware than to a bought accessory.
