Most rooms have light where the sockets are, not where you actually sit. The corner of a sofa, a windowsill, the end of a dining table — the places that would benefit most from a low pool of light are usually the ones a cable cannot reach.

This cordless table lamp goes wherever the evening happens. Charge it, lift it, set it down: on the table for supper, on a bar or console, beside the bed. A single touch turns it on, and a long press takes the brightness anywhere between ten and a hundred per cent, holding the level you last chose.

The stem and base are aluminium with a sprayed finish; the shade above is plastic, chosen to diffuse the light rather than scatter it. It is an honest combination rather than an all-metal one, and the proportions are deliberately plain — a slim post, a simple shade — so the lamp reads as part of the table rather than an object placed on it. At CRI 90, the light it gives is warm and true to colour.
